How to Maintain Your DuraBond Fence

So, you may be asking, what kind of maintenance is needed for an essentially maintenance-free fence?

Not much maintenance to be sure, but we do want to be sure you understand that while DuraBond’s fencing materials are guaranteed against chalking or fading for 10 years, there are steps you need to take to keep your fence looking great over many years.

First, don’t ever paint DuraBond’s fencing.  The five-layer coating is all you need, and if you paint the fence, we can no longer guarantee the material against chalking or fading.  Hey you, with the spray paint – back away from the fence!

Also, hosing off the channels on the top and bottom rails will keep insects from feeling too cozy about taking up residence in your fence.  Be sure to spray out the debris and dust collected over time – if it is left alone, it can cause corrosion.  You should do this 1-3 times per year, depending on the environment around your fence.

Another trick: keep plants from growing up under the bottom rail.  This becomes unsightly, and plants can impact structural integrity if they grow to sufficient size, and constant contact between the plants and the fence could cause corrosion.

Sometimes a fence panel can be dented – this only occurs when there is significant force involved.  We conducted a study at our warehouse to see if we could dent our fencing with a soccer ball.  It was only when our tester, Josh (a big burly guy) chucked the soccer ball as hard as he could right at the fence before any damage was done.  So, we don’t recommend chucking any kind of ball into our fencing – while it is not as breakable as a vinyl fence, damage can be incurred.  Our fencing is not designed to be a backstop!  The good news?  If you do get a dent, replacing a sheet is inexpensive, and easy to do.

Many of our customers are integrating DuraBond’s fencing with their landscaping design.  No problem, but keeping bushes and plants away from the fence is standard maintenance.  Wind-powered branches can scratch overtime, and any herbicides from spraying can harm the coating.  Be sure to spray off your DuraBond fence if any chemicals are sprayed on it.  Same with pool water – those are some nasty chemicals that you don’t want on your fence, or clothes for that matter!

If your fence is on a shared boundary, talk to your neighbor about how to maintain their side of the fence, and you can be worry free.

Give us a call if you have any questions.  DuraBond Steel Privacy Fencing is ready to help you on your new fence project!
