Fire Happens – Plan for it!

In case you missed it, May 1 was National Fire Preparedness Day. It happens every year.

In the past 20 years, there has been considerable progress made by communities across the USA in preparing for wildfires, but there is much work still to be done. This is where Firewise Communities USA comes in. Firewise Communities is a project of the National Wildfire Protection Association organization, and Firewise has established over 1300 Firewise Communities in the United States since 2012!

Recent fires in Oregon have provided grim reminders that property owners must plan and prepare if they want to protect themselves and their properties from fire. Many of the properties destroyed across the state were in places where owners had not prepared for such a horrific event. Many of the owners did not even believe there were in a community at risk for such a tragedy.

Even properties situated inside of city limits of many of the towns and cities in our state may be in the line of fire! Remember that brush, grass and forest fires can and do occur nearly everywhere in the United States. It makes sense to prepare for fire as you can afford.

Firewise Communities USA provides common sense strategies and actions that can help protect your family and property from fire. Some measures can be attained with sweat equity, while others, such as purchasing non-combustible roofing, siding, and boundary fencing is a great investment.

DuraBond Steel Privacy Fencing is in higher demand as Firewise Communities across the state are contacting us for materials – our gates, and our fencing, is non-combustible and mitigates the spread of fire!

Mary Kwart, retired fire management expert and Ashland resident told us: “Think about the showers of embers coming down from the sky,” she said. “If they hit a wood fence it is an instant fire…wood fencing acts as a wick to take a fire onto your property and onto your neighbor’s property.”

Lane County has joined in the Firewise movement and provides helpful grants for property owners to prepare for fire. Lane accepts applications each year from property owners outside of the urban growth boundary for work pertaining to fire preparedness for your home – to link to their website click HERE

Give us a call if you have any questions about our fencing – we would love to be part of your plan! We look forward to hearing from you.  (541) 337-8704
